Archway Cookies is conducting a voluntary recall of 12-ounce packages of Gourmet Rocky Road Cookies because the product contains eggs, which are not indicated in the ingredient statement. The recall is the result of a recent packaging change for the Gourmet Rocky Road product, which inadvertently omitted eggs from the list of ingredients on the product label.
No other Archway products are affected by the recall (including the Sugar Free version of the Rocky Road product, which is correctly labeled). The company has not received any consumer complaints or any indications of reported illnesses relating to the label change. Although eggs account for only two percent of the product ingredients, people who are allergic to them could experience a serious or life threatening allergic reaction of they consume this product. Consumers who are not allergic or highly sensitive to eggs may eat the product safely.
Consumers who wish to return the package may do so at their local retailers for a full refund or exchange. The company has notified its representatives to remove unsold product from store shelves. Consumers may also call the company's toll-free telephone number (1-888-427-2492) with any questions.
The label error affects approximately 100,000 packages distributed in the United States containing the printed dates "June 5" through "August 25". Packages of Archway Rocky Road sold by the company's franchisees in the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii do no contain the label error and are not affected by the recall. New products with the corrected labeling will be available in the very new future.
