It's all about the ear in today's issue of Vidyya. In a somewhat surprising evidence-based report, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)has reported that watchful waiting may be the best policy when it comes to treating pediatric otitis media. Physician reviewers found that 80% of otitis media cases resolved without therapy within seven days of onset--with no intervention. Vidyya has the full summary of the technical report for you.

In related news, Floxin ®, a topical antibiotic may also be useful in the fight against otitis media. A meeting of physicians from the American Academy of Pediatrics explored alternatives to oral antibiotic treatment for ear infection.
