Back To Vidyya FDA Clears Cedara Software's Web-Enabled Image Viewing Application

Web-Enabled Multi-Modality, Multi-Connectivity Cardiology Viewer Now Available To US Cardiology Market

Cedara Software Corp. today announced clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the Cedara(TM) Software for the Heart cardiac imaging application to original equipment manufacturers in the United States. The Cedara web-enabled viewer allows qualified medical professionals to capture, retrieve, display, manipulate, measure, report, and save cardiac or other medical images generated from various modalities and sources.

Cedera is demonstrating the technology at the world's largest gathering of medical imaging companies and radiologists, the Radiological Society of North America Conference, Chicago, Nov. 26-Dec.1, McCormick Place, Booth No. 3714. Announcements about new technology to be unveiled at the show can be found at www.cedara.com.

The viewing application cleared by the FDA, which is part of the Cedara Software for the Heart suite, gives cardiologists access to simultaneous views of X-ray angiography (XA), echocardiography (ultrasound), magnetic resonance angiography, computed tomography, x-ray, computed radiography, and nuclear medicine images, with support for angiography and echocardiography images in either a static or dynamic view. The dynamic or cine mode view allows specialists to see cardiac images in motion.

The new cardiology suite offering addresses the large cardiology diagnostic imaging market, which is projected to grow to $2.25 billion by 2003, according to industry analysts, Frost & Sullivan. Cedara will also adapt the multi-modality, multi-connectivity viewer for applications beyond cardiology.

"Now Cedara's OEM customers have more flexibility than ever to develop end-user solutions. This is a complete plug and play, market-ready cardiac application designed to enhance clinical workflow," said Jacques Cornet, Director, Cedara Cardiology Marketing. "That means that soon our multi- modality viewers will be sold directly to U.S. cardiologists via our extensive OEM network, aiding imaging review and diagnostic decision-making."

Cedara Software for the Heart components and applications offer flexible plug-in architecture to help integrators and developers easily add cardiology imaging support to their products. Cornet said that the viewing application is ideal for customers looking for a multi-modality display including 2D, 3D and cine mode angiography and ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI and CT images. The application benefits from Cedara's streaming DICOM solutions, as well as connectivity with echocardiography equipment via its recently acquired Cedara Dicomit DICOM solutions. Cedara Software Corp. is a leading independent medical imaging software developer and major outsourcer of imaging technology to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the healthcare market. The Company is one of the largest independent medical imaging software developers and a major outsourcer of imaging technology to the healthcare market.
