Professors and practitionsers seeking photos to spice up their lectures can peruse the new American Society for Microbiology educational Web site that offers over 150 images.
The images, along with a plethora of course material are available with a liberal fair use policy allowing instructors to download the materials for classroom use.
Visitors are encouraged to check out everything from photos of septic system bacteria to the pathogen that causes Lyme disease. Some items are available as video clips. An interesting video of an E. coli bacteria having a snack is just one example of what's available on the site.
If pracitioners would like to use the photos to educate patients on the importance of proper hygiene, there are plenty of example of bacteria ridden teeth and contact lenses as well.
The site is to be commended on its liberal free use policy. Hopefully more educational societies will follow suit. You can visit the site by following this URL: www.microbelibrary.org.
