Trauma Season: A National Study of the Seasonality of Unintentional Childhood Injury
Summer is the most dangerous time of year for kids, according to a new study released yesterday by the National SAFE KIDS Campaign. In a first-ever national report on seasonal trends of fatal and nonfatal unintentional injury among children, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign found that May through August account for nearly half of all injury related childhood deaths, with July being the most deadly month. More Data Show: Five Years Of Tamoxifen Is Enough
Women recovering from breast cancer that has not spread to the lymph nodes appear to gain no additional advantage by taking tamoxifen beyond the five years already shown to be most effective in preventing a relapse, according to researchers who have updated results from a major National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) clinical trial. These results strongly support a 1995 National Cancer Institute clinical alert distributed to doctors urging them to limit post-surgical treatment with tamoxifen to five years in routine practice. more

A Boston-based researcher has found that prompt CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) can save the lives of young people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) due to blunt trauma to the chest. Known as Commotio Cordis, which can occur in children who are struck by a baseball, softball, lacrosse ball, fist or other object, the condition often claims the lives of its victims within a matter of minutes. more
