Results From Phase I/II Human Clinical Trial On New Product Candidate For Colorectal, Pancreatic And Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancers
On Sunday, ImmunoGen, Inc. announced the safety and pharmacokinetic data from 37 patients enrolled in the first human clinical trial of its Tumor-Activated Prodrug (TAP), huC242-DM1/SB-408075, for the treatment of colorectal, pancreatic, and certain non-small-cell lung cancers. In addition, evidence of antitumor activity in several patients was reported.  more

Atrasentan (ABT-627) Inhibits Progression Of Bone Metastases In End-Stage Prostate Cancer
Phase II data presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) suggest that atrasentan (ABT-627), Abbott Laboratories' investigational endothelin-A receptor antagonist, can inhibit the progression of bone metastases in patients with end-stage, or hormone-refractory, prostate cancer.  more

Femara Has Demonstrated Superiority Over Tamoxifen In Advanced Breast Cancer
Clinical findings demonstrating Femara (letrozole tablets) to be significantly more effective than tamoxifen in treating postmenopausal women with large localized or locally advanced hormone-responsive breast cancer who were not amenable to breast-conserving surgery or who were considered inoperable in the neo-adjuvant (pre-operative) setting, were presented today at the 37th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in San Francisco, California. Femara received approval in January 2001 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the first-line treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.  more

Data Suggest Gleevec Effective In Rare Form Of Gastrointestinal Tumor
Data on the activity of Gleevec (imatinib mesylate; formerly STI571) in a rare form of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) was highlighted during the key plenary session of the 37th annual meeting of the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in San Francisco, California. Also during this session, the activity of the agent in an early study in soft tissue sarcoma was discussed. In addition, the potential activity of Gleevec in CML and GIST will be featured in more than 20 abstracts and presentations throughout the week.  more

Lung Cancer Vaccine Trial Looks Promising In Phase I/II
Interim clinical data from a multicenter Phase I/II of the GVAX lung cancer vaccine trial demonstrates objective evidence of antitumor activity including a major response rate of 18 percent in patients with advanced non small-cell lung cancer who have failed chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
