Marijuana-Derived Drug Less Effective than Standard Drug for Cancer Patients
A drug derived from marijuana is not as effective as a standard drug for curbing loss of appetite and
weight in patients with advanced cancer, according to a study conducted by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and the North
Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG). The results of the study are published in this month's Journal of Clinical

Chronic Sorrow Higher for HIV-Positive Women than Men
HIV-positive women with children are more likely than men to suffer from chronic sorrow related to
their illness, fear of death, poverty and social isolation, according to a study published in the 29 January 2002 issue of the
journal AIDS Patient Care and STD's. In addition, African-American women experience depression at twice the rate of whites.
Bronwen Lichtenstein, Ph.D., a research assistant professor of sociology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
