US wants British flu vaccine
As US health officials run short of influenza vaccine, they are considering buying thousands of doses of flu vaccine from Britain. Parts of the US have been affected by the Fujian flu strain, which has also hit the UK. The UK Department of Health said the US would talk directly to vaccine suppliers and any deal would not affect NHS patients.  more

Are COX-2 drugs cost effective?
Findings reported in a study published today by The American Journal of Managed Care call into question the cost effectiveness of the new, more expensive COX-2 anti-inflammatory drugs. Using data representing actual clinical practice, researchers sought to validate the rate of co-prescribing of agents used to protect the gastrointestinal tract -- a key assumption made in prior COX-2 cost-effectiveness studies.  more
