UK: Ability to cope with biological or chemical attack endangered by changes to the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS)
Under a new scheme scheme all the UK's Public Laboratory Service's 47 laboratories will be run by local National Health Service Trusts. The Whitehall run Service is to be merged in April into a new body called the Health Protection Agency.  more


More SARS deaths reported
The BBC reports that a Vietnamese nurse has become the latest person to die after contracting a mystery virus, bringing the worldwide death total, as of March 24, to 22. The illness, known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS, had already killed another Vietnamese nurse and a French doctor working at the Vietnam-France Hospital in Hanoi.  more
