Drug resistant tuberculosis levels ten times higher in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
Tuberculosis patients in parts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia are 10 times more likely to have multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) than in the rest of the world, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) report into the deadly infectious disease. The Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas announced today that Hadi M. Ghandour, owner of Genapharm, Inc. of Austin, Texas, pled guilty on March 9, 2004 to four counts of an indictment charging conspiracy to introduce misbranded and unapproved new drugs into interstate commerce, counterfeiting human growth hormone, and possessing controlled drugs with intent to distribute.  more
