USDA BSE update for 2 February 2004
On Saturday, 31 January, three animals of interest were euthanized and sampled from the second Mabton, WA, facility. The facility has been released from quarantine. In addition to this facility, USDA has previously conducted selective depopulation activities at these facilities:
·Sunnyside, WA (bull calf premises) - a total of
449 animals depopulated
·Mabton, WA (index premises) - a total of 131 animals
·Mattawa, WA - a total of 39 animals depopulated
·Connell, WA - a total of 15 animals depopulated
·Boardman, OR - a total of 20 animals depopulated
·Quincy, WA – a total of 18 animals depopulated
·Tenino, WA – a total of 4 animals depopulated
·Moxee, WA – a total of 15 animals depopulated
·Othello, WA – a total of 3 animals depopulated
·Burley, ID – a total of 7 animals depopulated.
Samples taken from the 15 animals depopulated in Moxee,
WA have tested negative. In addition, the 227 samples from the Mabton
index herd, the herds in Mattawa, Connell, Boardman, Quincy, and Tenino
have tested negative for BSE – for a total of 242 samples that have
tested negative. The final test results for the samples taken at Othello,
WA; Burley, ID; and the second Mabton, WA, facility, are not yet available.
